9-11 15th Anniversary

On this day 15 years ago, a horrendous tragedy unfolded in New York and at the Pentagon.

Our country was viciously attacked. I was sleeping and my best friend’s dad rushed over to our house and woke us up saying “We’ve been attacked!”. We turned on the news a short time before the 2nd plane hit. We watched, stunned, as the day unfolded. It didn’t seem real. Phone & internet networks were overloaded and unresponsive as people tried to contact loved ones or find additional information.

We lived close to an airport, and the silence over the next several days was deafening as flights were grounded. The only planes we heard in the air were fighter jets patrolling the skies or conducting drills.

We must remember and honor the civilians who were killed on that dark day. We must also remember the first responders, police, firefighters, and EMTs who charged into those doomed buildings trying to rescue as many people as they could. We must remember our men and women in uniform who have since laid down their lives in defense of this country.
